Trivia:

As we entered our senior year of high school at EHS, the United States Postal Service could send your letter anywhere for only a dime.

The median household income (in current US dollars) was $11,800.

A new home cost $48,000.

A gallon of regular (leaded) gasoline was 57¢  (and we complained about that).

A dozen eggs was 77¢, and a gallon of whole milk cost $1.57.

The Federal Deficit was $541.9 billion, the consumer price index was 53.8, and unemployment was 8.5%.

President Gerald Ford escaped two assassination attempts only 17 days apart in September.  Both occurred in California and were carried out by women.

Saturday Night Live premiered on October 11, 1975 with host George Carlin; but America's top 10 TV favorites were:

          18th  Heiress/Bank robber Patricia Campbell Hearst is captured by the FBI in San Francisco.

            20th  David Bowie's "Fame," single goes Number One for two weeks.

            26th  Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets play a double header that ends at 3:15 am.

October:

            10th  Marriage number six for Elizabeth Taylor as she re-marries Richard Burton.

            17th  1st Space Shuttle main engine test at National Space Tech Labs, Miss.

            22nd  Carlton Fisk hits a 12th inning home run in game 6 of the World Series as the Red Socks defeat the Reds 7-6.

            29th  The World Football League™ is officially disbanded.

            29th  The Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe kills his first victim.

            30th  The New Your Daily News runs headline:  "Ford to City: Drop Dead."

November:

            18th  Calvin Murphy (Houston) ends NBA free-throw streak at 58 games.

            21st  US Drub charges are dropped against Linda McCartney.

            23rd  Chicago Bears place-kicker Bob Thomas kicks a 55 yard field goal.

December:

             6th  Ohio State running back Archie Griffin wins the 41st Heisman Trophy Award.

             9th  President Ford signs $2.3 billion load authorization for New York City.

            11th  First class postage increases from 10¢ to 13¢.

            13th  Saturday Night Live uses time-delay for the first time - Richard Prior was the host.

            19th  John Paul Stevens becomes a Supreme Court Justice.

            19th  Ron Wood joins the Rolling Stones.

            20th  Joe Walsh joins the Eagles.

            23rd  Congress passes the Metric Conversion Act.

            29th  11 killed, 75 injured by terrorist bomb at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

            31st  Alabama beats Penn State 13 - 6 in the 42nd Sugar Bowl.

1976

January:

             1st  NBC replaces the peacock logo.

            16th  The Donnie and Marie (Osmond) Show premiers on ABC.

            17th  "I Write the Songs" by Barry Manilow is #1.

            31st  "Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players is #1.

February:

             1st  Sonny and Cher resume TV show, despite real-life divorce.

            13th  Dorothy Hamill wins Olympics figure-skating gold, Innsbruck, Austria.

March:

             2nd  Walt Disney World logs its 50 millionth guest.

            20th Patricia Hearst is convicted of armed robbery.

            29th  8 Ohio National Guardsmen are indicted for shooting 4 Kent State students.

            31st  New Jersey Court rules Karen Anne Quinlan may be disconnected from respirator (ventilator).

April:

             1st  Stephen Wozniak and Steven Jobs originate the Apple Computer.

             6th  1st quadraphonic movie track "Ladies & Gentlemen the Rolling Stones" debuts

            13th  The Federal Reserve begins issuing $2 bicentennial notes.

            17th The National League's greatest comeback: trailing 12-1 the Phillies win 18-16 in 10 innings.

May:

            24th  1st Commercial SST flight to North America (Concorde to Washington, DC).
